Gran Casino

Photo of Gran Casino performing in UCD Student Bar

Gran Casino played the Student Bar on the 25th October as support for The Stone Roses Experience, but for me they were a whole lot more interesting, both to listen to and to shoot. Check out their myspace and have a listen (Sun Music comes particularly well recommended).

Read on for a few more, and after that, there is of course more on flickr.

Dirty Sanchez

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

It’s been waaaaay too long since I was here. I promise it won’t happen again… for a while.

I’ve been shooting plenty of gigs in college for UCDents.com, so there’ll be lots of shots from there on the blog soon. The one above is from MTV’s Dirty Sanchez’s live show. Following a theme from their TV show, it was pretty disgusting, with plenty of bodily fluids on display. I left before the end to get a bus home, but am so glad I was there for this moment.

There’s more of the show on flickr

Silence

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Sorry, I was in Spain for 2 weeks and didn’t quite get around to scheduling posts before I left.

The night before I left, I shot Nine Lives again, this time at the launch of their EP in the Voodoo Lounge:

The lighting was very dim throughout, especially after a stagediver managed to knock one of the lights away from the stage. As a result, lots of the shots are fairly noisy and I opted to use black & white a lot to make the best of a bad situation.

Also popped the flash a few times to get some crazy light streak effects:

And a stagediver for the crack:

Wednesday Night

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

It’s been quiet around here recently. Sorry about that.

This shot was taken on the evening of Wednesday 20th June, the day of my last exam.

More posts to come soon.

My First Photo Pass

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Photo of Photo Pass for Billy Talent gig

That was fun. My first gig with a photo pass, and in the pit.

I was asked on Thursday by Nine Lives to shoot their support slot for Billy Talent at the Ambassador.

From what I heard, it’s very rare that an unsigned band like them, used to playing Scout Halls and birthday parties gets picked to play support at a gig like this one.

Photo of the crowd and stage at the gig

Previously the biggest crowds Nine Lives had played to were around 300 or so. The Ambassador holds 1250 people, and was sold out last night.

Kick, Push

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Yes, I know I’ve neglected the blogging. Sorry about that.

Went to the opening of the new skate park in Greystones, which Wicklow County Council’s blog (yep, they have a blog) [UPDATE: on further investigation, the blog appears to be a commercial thing] likes to boast is the biggest in the country. It involved lots of skating, BMXes and rollerblading, aswell as some live music. Took plenty of photos.

Couldn’t get Kick, Push by Lupe Fiasco out of my head while processing them

Few of my favourites here, then more after the jump.

Tuning Up

Babydave's lead singer/guitarist helps bassist tune up. (Sorry, don't know their names)

The gig on Tuesday was the first time I’ve filled my (2GB) memory card in one go (with a little over 500 photos). I’m currently processing the rest of the photos, and they should be up on Flickr soon enough.
