Was at the Sunday Roast in Thomas Reads on Dame St on Sunday night (Gran Casino were performing). Never heard of it before but it’s brilliant:- free music, board games (was Connect 4 this week) AND roast potatoes. Would go more often if it wasn’t so fucking hard to get home to Greystones on a Sunday night. Photos coming soon.

Festival Attire

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Courtesy of On The Record, the best of The Irish Timeslook we’re cool we have blogs, comes the genius that is FestivalShirts.net.

The only t-shirts you can wear to a festival this year and still expect to come away from it with everyone thinking you’re really cool, they come in bright but not attention-seeking colours with such genius captions as “If this is your t-shirt I slept in your tent”, “Don’t take drugs. That’s stealing” and “What Music?”

YouTube Adventures Pt. II

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

So other blogs have their caption competitions or their fluffy links, but this is as close as you’re going to get to a regular feature around here. I did it once before, and I may well do it again, but there is as yet no planned schedule.

Like the last installment, this one will follow a mainly musical theme.

I started by looking up a performance I saw on Later… with Jools Holland again:

I think I quite like Shy Child. Their mySpace page has some other nice songs. I particularly like The Volume and Summer.

After hearing The Avalanches’ Frontier Psychiatrist (above) on the radio a while back I looked them up. It’s quite a display of their sampling skills, and I think their Since I Left You has the potential to be quite the Summer song. Their myspace page is here.

When I originally heard Frontier Psychiatrist, I at first thought it might have been Messiah J & the Expert, and for that (if no better) reason, here’s Something Outta Nothing:

There’s more on their website and myspace (particular attention is drawn to Superfamous Supertune and All the Other Girls)

Organising Photos

If this isn’t all over the internet yet, it soon will be.

Forget tags and keywords, folders and files. This is how photos should be organised:

Some (very expensive, I’d wager) lawyers don’t want you to see the above number.

After receiving a “Cease and Desist” from the MPAA, Digg removed some posts containing this number. Some peeved Diggers reposted and dugg the number repeatedly until Digg founder Kevin Rose declared:

After seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.

If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.

I can digg it

How could I ever have doubted?

Friday, April 6th, 2007

In case you’re one of those weirdo-nutjobs who believes that we’re all descended from apes, I present to you the inescapable proof of intelligent design… The Banana.

Before you go into the fact that the bananas we know and love only look like that after centuries of careful breeding in order to improve their ergonomics, have a read of the hilarious comments over at the video page

They include such gems as:

Pineapples anyone?

can an omnipotent being create a task he can not complete?

and:

If you hold your banana backwards when eating it, does that disprove the existence of God?

And yes, there really is a GodTube. Some good commentary on that issue over at TechCrunch, including my comment:

How dare you claim that GodTube is a rip-off of YouTube!

GodTube CREATED YouTube and all the other similar video-sharing sites (several years after the scientific evidence would show them to have been created) and controls all goings-on at these sites (including the huge financial success of YouTube, relative to GodTube)

Oh, and Happy Easter.

It’s like this man is inside my head…

Commercial Break

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Nothing here in a while. Will have some photos from my new DIY Macro Photography Lighting Rig up soon.

Just to tie you over till then, an ad. The whole Jaguar “Gorgeous” thing seems a bit pretentious, but I’ll forgive them, if only for the music (Collarbone) provided by Fujiya & Miyagi (I took this photo at their gig in Crawdaddy in February). Not bad for a band who still had their day jobs until a week after that gig:

Coming Soon…

Although Tom commented favourably on the site’s design on this post, I’ve been getting kinda bored with it. So I’ve thought up something else:

New design screenshot

You can get a closer look here, but be warned: if you’re not using Firefox, it mightn’t be worth it. I’m just looking at design & layout, I haven’t attempted to make it work in multiple browsers, or apply it to WordPress yet.

Anyway, see anything you don’t like? Anything you really like? Gimme a comment.

UPDATE: I submitted the mockup to BrowserShots, so you can see what it looks like in various browsers as the results come in
